Dumbarton Church published the first edition of And God Loves Each One in 1988, shortly after completing its own dialogue. The congregation realized that as a Christian community, they indeed welcome everyone—with no exceptions.
Because so many religious people have condemned sexual and gender minorities, Dumbarton publicly states that its wide welcome includes gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender people and their families.
Since that time, the congregation has thrived and grown. And what’s more, it’s raised an entire generation of children in this context of wider welcome—children who can stand up to name-calling and bullying at school and in their neighborhoods because they know gay people as friends and parents of friends, Sunday School teachers, and clergy.
Dumbarton’s involvement in this booklet is based on sharing the richness of its own experience, bringing together for other people of faith the information and perspectives that have been important to their own journey. Now, with the publication of two booklets—Made in God’s Image and the second edition of And God Loves Each One—they continue the invitation to become partners in declaring God’s love for all people.
